Jakob Gunsberg, his wife, Reizel Bernstein, and their son Gideon
These Polish Jewish refugees who came from Vienna in 1939, Jakob Gunsberg, a 47-year-old travelling salesman, his wife Reizel Bernstein, 42, and their son Gideon, 15 , a worker in a bicycle factory, lived in Korte Van Ruusbroeckstraat. The Antwerp police arrested 44 Jews there during the second nighttime raid. After breaking down the door of the Gunsberg home, the police searched the entire house before finding the family hiding in the cellar. They were sent to the Dossin Barracks on 29 August 1942, and were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau on Transport 7, before disappearing without a trace.
