Born in Poland, Anna Kubowitski arrived in Belgium in 1908, whereas Joseph Helman arrived in 1916. They lived in Saint-Gilles, a commune of Brussels. Joseph Helman (46) was a radio salesman. His wife, 44, was a shopkeeper. On 31 August 1942 they were taken from Saint-Gilles to the Dossin Barracks and were deported on Transport 8 on 8 September 1942. Neither of them survived.
Their daughter, Gita Helman, 16, managed to avoid capture in 1942, but was arrested and sent to the Dossin Barracks about a year later. The last mention of her name appears on the deportation list for Transport 22 A, which left for Auschwitz-Birkenau on 20 September 1943.
