Malka Chaja Skoczylas, 47, was a Polish Jew who worked as a tailor. She lived alone with her three children, Regina Szwarcbort, 15, a leather worker, Jacob, 11 and Willy, 9, at 44 Rue de Mérode in Brussels. Another family of Polish Jews lived in the same house. These were Abram Lewkowicz, 44, his wife, Chaja Szmulewicz, 35, their daughter, Eugénie, 14 and their son Pierrot, 11. The big nighttime raid of 3 September 1942 saw 99 Jews picked up in this street alone. Deported together on Transport 9 on 12 September, the Szwarcbort-Skoczylas and Lewkowicz-Szmulewicz families disappear from the record after their deportation.
