Gustav Anger

Gustav Anger, a German teacher, lived in Nordhausen. He was arrested there during Kristallnacht (9-10 November 1938) and interned at the Buchenwald concentration camp. Following his release in December 1938, he and his family emigrated to Belgium. Gustav was detained as a ‘suspect’ by the Belgian authorities on 10 May 1940, handed over to the French administration and interned at Saint-Cyprien. During a storm in October 1940, the camp was flooded and he was transferred to Gurs. Gustav was sent to Drancy in August 1942, where he wrote a final letter to his wife and two children, who were still in Belgium. Gustav Anger (46) was deported from Drancy on 10 August 1942 via Transport 17 to Auschwitz-Birkenau. The circumstances of his death are not known.
