David Van Cleef (born 23/11/1883 in Amsterdam) moved to Belgium in June 1925. After his arrival he settles in Carnotstraat in Antwerp. He is active as a diamond cutter. In 1926 he moves to Leeuwlantstraat in Deurne. Once here, also Elisabeth Santecroos (°12/01/1880, Amsterdam) moved to Belgium. A few months after her arrival she and David married.

In May 1940 Nazi Germany invaded Belgium and installed an occupation policy with anti-Jewish laws. In March 1942, the van Cleef-Santecroos couple registered with the Jewish Association; at that time they were still living in the Leeuwlantstraat in Deurne. The two were arrested during the nightly razzia of 28-29 August 1942. They were transferred to the SS-Sammellager Mecheln from where they were deported with transport VIII to Auschwitz-Birkenau on 8 September. Both are murdered.
