Isaac Salomon Chemd

Isaac Salomon Chemd was born on May 6, 1921, in the Polish city of Częstochowa. His parents, Salomon Chemd (May 7, 1890) and Gittel Baum (March 1, 1892), were both of Polish descent, but later moved to Verviers. Isaac Salomon was the youngest child in the family. He had two older sisters, Bertha (August 1, 1913) and Sarah. Salomon, Gittel, Bertha, and Isaac Salomon received an Arbeitseinsatzbefehl ordering them to report to the Dossin Barracks. After that, they would be forced into compulsory labor.

The family reported to the barracks at the end of July 1942. There, they were registered on the first transport list under numbers 231, 232, 233, and 234. Transport I departed from the Dossin Barracks on August 4, 1942. Salomon, Gittel, Bertha, and Isaac Salomon did not return alive. The eldest daughter of the family, Sarah, had Belgian nationality. As a result, she was initially spared deportation. She went into hiding and managed to survive the war. She died in 2011.
