Israelis Iciksons, a Latvian businessman, emigrated to Belgium in late 1937. His wife, Elisabeth Dimenstein, had already been living with her sister in Brussels for over a year. Israelis’ brother-in-law helped him find a managerial position at Etamil, a supplier for the ‘Etam’ lingerie stores. The two men set up their own business, S.A. Sadelia, in early 1938, again specializing in women’s lingerie.
Israelis and Elisabeth fled to France when Germany invaded Belgium on 10 May 1940. They settled in Bayonne, near the Spanish border, where they were arrested on 19 October 1942. Israelis Iciksons (60) and Elisabeth Dimenstein (48) were interned at Mérignac and deported from the Drancy assembly camp via Transport 42 to Auschwitz-Birkenau on 6 November 1942. There is no further trace of them following their arrival. They did not survive deportation.
