Salomon Kruman

Salomon Kruman was a Polish labourer who emigrated from Vienna to Brussels in May 1938. He was interned as an unmarried political refugee at the refugee centres in Merksplas and Wortel, where he learned a profession with a view to his future emigration. Salomon was released in early 1940 and moved to Antwerp, where he was living when the occupation began. He fled to France in July 1942 after being accused of a minor offence. Salomon Kruman (34) was detained in Lyons and was deported from the Drancy assembly camp via Transport 49 to Auschwitz-Birkenau on 2 March 1943. On arrival two days later, he was selected, along with a hundred other men, for forced labour. The group was assigned to the Sonderkommando, which worked in the gas chambers and crematoria at Auschwitz-Birkenau. According to the Auschwitz Sterbebücher (death books), Salomon Kruman died on 10 March 1943.
