Sussel Dim

Max Leibowicz was a German insurance representative who entered Belgium illegally after ‘Kristallnacht’ (9-10 November 1938). His wife, Sussel Dim, followed him in March 1939. Max was detained as a ‘suspect’ by the Belgian authorities on 10 May 1940, handed over to the French administration and interned at the Saint-Cyprien and Gurs camps. He escaped in early 1941 and was reunited with his wife in Antwerp. They fled to France together a year later, where they were detained and interned at the Écrouves guarded centre. Max Leibowicz (54) and Sussel Dim (44) were deported from the Drancy assembly camp via Transport 47 to Auschwitz-Birkenau on 3 February 1943. There is no trace of either of them after arrival. Max Leibowicz and Sussel Dim both died under unknown circumstances.
