Kurt Posener was a German First World War veteran. He and his son Ludwig fled their country for Brussels in the wake of Kristallnacht (9-10 November 1938). His attempts to bring over his wife, Cécile Skopp, failed. She was deported from Berlin in late 1941 and murdered in the vicinity of Riga. The Belgian authorities arrested Kurt as a ‘suspect’ in May 1940 and handed him over to the French administration, which transferred him to the south of France. He was held at Saint-Cyprien, Gurs, Les Milles and Gurs once again, before being assigned to the 526th Foreign Labour Group in Izeste. Kurt Posener (51) was subsequently interned at Rivesaltes and then transferred to Drancy. He was deported from the assembly camp via Transport 31 to Auschwitz-Birkenau on 11 September 1942. There is no further trace of him. Kurt Posener did not survive deportation.
